Highlights
Robust storage management provides flexible virtualization, striping and mirroring (Raid: 0, 1 and 1/0), host access control, and online capacity expansion while remaining easy to use.
Provides data availability and accessibility by providing multiple physical mirrors with flexible mirror management.
Virtual point-in-time copies (Snapshots) allow backups, data mining, or application testing to be done without impacting access to critical data resources.
The use of standard iSCSI and Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) infrastructures reduces cost and complexity. This familiar technology simplifies installation, management and maintenance.
Powerful graphical user interface (GUI) simplifies system management. Smart templates in GUI allow for rapid volume creation without requiring knowledge of the underlying data structures.
Simplified capacity planning: System storage can dynamically grow and be provisioned to hosts without disrupting applications or users.
Command Line Interface (CLI) is also provided to allow users to create scripts for rapid, automated provisioning of storage.
Highly available architecture provides n-way active-active failover for all hosts, volumes and components.

Features
Multi-host application data availability: Distribute copies of data for workflow purposes. Local applications may need a copy of information for their access. A snapshot can be mapped to secondary hosts for work distribution purposes.
High Availability: No single point of failure
Multiple Storage Controller Modules (SCMs), each of which can support the entire system on its own
Each SCM has two redundant Ethernet connections to the Disk Controller Modules (DCMs) and each DCM has two Ethernet connections for redundant GigE switch connectivity
Each Disk Enclosure (DE) and SCM has two power supplies, with each power supply having its own AC input
Microsoft® Volume Shadow Copy Service Integrates with Microsoft’s standard data protection and recovery solutions for Windows Servers.
Wizard-based snapshot creation Step-by-step snapshot creation to improve productivity and reduce cost of storage administration.
Snapshot to Volume Mapping Logical view of a single volume or a group of volumes, and how snapshots are mapped to those volumes. The snapshot’s time stamp, total size, and volume layout are displayed graphically.
Snapshot Rollback Test new applications, new versions, currency conversion, training functions, and format migration by using the snapshot. After the results have been collected, the snapshots can be reset to their original state and can catch up with any changes made to the original volume.
Multiple Snapshot Protect critical data by making multiple synchronized snapshots which can be split (broken) to move to remote and offline storage.

Overview
Using the IP5500, email servers will find it is an ideal solution. Dynamically growing volumes and the ability to easily merge multiple email servers’ storage is important to every email implementation.

In addition, many OLTP applications will benefit from using the IP5500. Creating volumes of the right size with the right properties is easy. Since the solution scales to 48TB, most OLTP applications will have plenty of capacity available.

With the IP5500, it is simple to add either additional performance or additional capacity. It is also simple to scale performance with an IP5500. Just plug a SC5500 storage controller module (SCM) into your network, and volumes are automatically redistributed with no loss of access by applications. Scaling capacity is also easy. Plug DE5200 or DE5400 into your network, and the additional capacity is immediately available to all hosts connected to the IP SAN.

The Intransa StorControl Management Tool: A simply smarter approach to managing network storage
Complex Fiber Channel SANs require administrators to use several different tools for installation and management. This complexity requires the availability of dedicated, highly skilled personnel to set up and manage the SANs. Intransa’s StorControl Management Tool simplifies storage management and installation by providing the IT administrator with an all-in-one, easy-to-use application.

Complex tasks such as creating a data volume with a specific RAID structure have been simplified into smart templates. These customizable templates create “virtual disks” based on a specific RAID structure (0, 1, 1/0), block size, or stripe width. Assigning a host with access to a specific volume is a simple ‘check-box’ function. Once a data volume has been created, the administrator may perform a single ‘click’ to display important statistics and overall health information. Advanced wizards take users through the volume creation and snapshot processes step- by-step. Users can even pre-script repetitive tasks using the CLI, further automating processes.

The StorControl Management Tool is the key to unlocking the power of the IP5500. It is designed to enable administrators to easily access, administer, setup, install and maintain IP5500 data volumes. With the StorControl Management Tool, IT administrators can assign volumes to servers, or expand existing volumes “on demand,” without disrupting applications or users.

The four advanced administrative tools in StorControl Management:
Volume Manager: Wizard-driven volume creation, host assignment management, read/write control and ‘drag-and-drop’ volume expansion.
Storage Resource Virtualization Manager: Configures free space pooling and simple setup of RAID types, striping and width.
Mirror Manager: Creates physical copies of volumes with the ability to ‘break,’ re-attach and re-sync mirrors.
Monitor Manager: Configure real-time alerts, and performance capacity monitoring.

Intransa StorControl Load Balance and High Availability
Reliability is the most important aspect of any storage system and the Intransa IP5500, with its High Availability and Load Balancing, will achieve better than four nines (99.99%) availability of customer data. The IP5500 does not sacrifice performance to meet availability requirements because all system components are in use at all times. This is unique in the industry.

Load Balancing: Maximum Performance
Unlike less-sophisticated storage systems, the StorControl Software Suite on the IP5500 system implements an n-way model of High Availability.

All the SCMs in an IP5500 system actively serve storage volumes, sharing the system workload. If an SCM fails, the volumes that were being served by it are automatically redistributed to all the other SCMs in the system.

Thanks to the Intransa innovation of iSCSI redirection via virtual IP addresses, when a SCM takes control of a volume from another SCM, this process is completely transparent to the host using the volume. When an SCM reboots and comes back online, or when a new SCM is introduced into an IP SAN system, StorControl automatically redistributes the load from the other SCMs to the newly available SCM. In normal operation, StorControl is designed to keep the load on each SCM roughly equal. The software uses a balancing algorithm to keep the volumes assigned to each SCM to ensure that each serves effectively.

Hot-Swappable: No Downtime for Component Failure
The IP5500 system must remain operational even when a failure occurs, therefore all the major components are hot-swappable, Field-Replaceable Units (FRU). The architecture means that an installation will continue working, even after a component failure. Normal performance will return when the new FRU is installed, which is done without taking working storage offline, while the software re-balances the load to the restored component.

The Intransa StorControl Snapshot: Simply a smarter approach to protecting critical data…
The StorControl Snapshot simplifies the task of creating volume snapshots by giving IT administrators a comprehensive, modern user interface to trigger a “point in time” virtual copy of a data volume. These snapshots reduce the need for frequent full-scale backups and allow data to remain online and accessible to hosts.

Snapshots are also writeable. They can be mounted as volumes, independent of the original, changed for testing and then any or all changes removed to return the snapshot to its initial state. Intransa’s software simplifies the task of implementing these changes. Snapshots can be used to restore a corrupted or otherwise bad volume, rollback test and experimental changes, and recreate a previous state for auditing requirements. Rollbacks are virtually instantaneous.

IT administrators expect protecting valuable data to be simple. The Intransa StorControl Snapshot and the Intransa StorControl Management Tool make it simply smarter.

Rapid Scalability in Capacity and Performance
The IP5500 is the most cost effective storage solution for applications requiring easy capacity scaling. The IP5500 allows capacity to be added dynamically by simply connecting another DE5200 or DE5400 to the IP5500. A simply smarter approach to increasing storage capacities on an IP SAN.

Unsurpassed Enterprise-Level Service
Intransa Service Plans are designed to provide users with prompt resolution of issues related to Intransa systems.
