Orange, CA (PRWEB) April 9, 2005 -- Caen Engineering,
manufacturers and resellers of high-quality data storage appliances,
announced today that it is shipping four new models of the Comet
SATA II RAID system. These new SATA II RAID arrays feature ASIC 266
architecture, which offers unprecedented read/write performance. The
Comet SATA II is available in eight, twelve, and sixteen-bay models.
The ultra low-profile Comet SATA II systems are capable of storing
up to 64 Terabytes of data in the highest density for 3.5” drives
available today.
“The SATA II is amazingly fast. There’s
nothing else like it on the market today. It marks a new record on
data throughput for RAID systems,” said Martin Calderwood, VP of
Operations for Caen Engineering.
Each Caen controller offers
up to 1GB cache memory, an IBM PowerPC processor, an Ethernet LAN
port, and one RS232 port for out-of-band management. Caen’s newest
RAID engine, the Caen-ASIC-266DDR, features a dual PCI-X bus design
and supports double data rate (DDR) memory, resulting in more than
double the performance of older models.
SATA-II drives are
slated for release in early Summer 2005, but the Comet SATA II is
backward compatible to work with SATA I drives.
