What Is LVD?

LVD is an acronym for Low Voltage Differential and is a subset of Ultra2 SCSI technology. LVD uses differential signaling technology which has lower voltage swings and is less susceptible to noise than standard Ultra SCSI technology.

What is Ultra2 SCSI and what are its benefits?
Ultra2 SCSI utilizes LVD signaling and a 40 MHz clock rate to allow for maximum burst rates on the Ultra2 SCSI bus of 80 MB per second-which is double the maximum burst rate of Wide Ultra SCSI. The performance benefits lend themselves well to data intensive applications that require speedy data I/O.

Ultra2 SCSI also quadruples the maximum cable length on the Ultra2 SCSI bus to 12 meters. This translates into greater flexibility when adding external storage and aids in configuring clustered servers.
